AUsome is a free, neuro-affirming autism resource. This page explains how we create and maintain our content so you know what to expect from us.
Who writes and edits our content
Our articles are written and edited by Syed, an autistic adult and parent of an autistic child. Syed draws on personal and family experience of autism alongside published research, guidance from recognised bodies such as the HSE, the National Autistic Society, and Citizens Information, and feedback from the wider autism community.
How we choose topics
We prioritise the questions autistic people, parents, and professionals in Ireland actually ask us, and the areas where clear, honest, non-medicalised information is hard to find elsewhere.
Our editorial standards
- We write from a neuro-affirming perspective: autism is a natural variation in how people think, communicate, and experience the world, not a disorder to be cured.
- We do not present personal or family experience as universal. Autistic people’s experiences vary widely, and we try to say so.
- Where we reference statistics, research, or official guidance, we link to the original source where possible.
- We are not doctors, psychologists, or other regulated healthcare professionals, and our content is not a substitute for individual professional advice. See our Medical Disclaimer.
- If we get something wrong, we correct it. See our Corrections Policy.
How we fund this site
AUsome is free to read, with no ads and no sponsored posts. The site is supported by sales of two books we’ve written on autistic burnout, linked from relevant articles and on our shop page. Buying a book is entirely optional and never required to access any article, guide, or resource on this site.
