AUsome is a free resource for autistic people, parents, and professionals who want honest, neuro-affirming information about autism, without the medical model framing that treats autistic traits as problems to be fixed.
We started as an autism training organisation. Over time, that model changed: AUsome no longer sells courses, webinars or memberships. What’s here now is a free, growing library of articles written from an autistic-led, affirming perspective, covering everything from meltdowns and masking to sensory processing, PDA, and getting an autism assessment in Ireland.
Why we exist
Most information about autism is still written from the outside looking in: a deficit model that frames autistic ways of thinking, communicating and moving through the world as things to correct. We write from a different starting point. Autistic traits are natural variation, not a disorder to be cured. Our job is to explain what’s actually going on, and what genuinely helps, without pathologising the people we’re writing about or for.
Who writes this
AUsome’s articles are written and edited by Syed, an autistic adult and parent of an autistic child. That lived experience, on both sides, shapes how we write: we try to explain things the way we wish they’d been explained to us, whether that’s understanding a meltdown, navigating an assessment, or figuring out how to support a child (or yourself) through a hard day.
We also lean on published research and named sources wherever a claim needs backing up, and we keep our clinical and procedural content reviewed and up to date. You can read more about how we work on our editorial policy page.
What’s still for sale
Two books remain available: Understanding Autistic Burnout and Supporting Children Through Burnout. Everything else on the site, the articles, the guides, the resources, is free.
